Our Story

A Family Recipe, Shared with Australia

Founded in 2008 by Aissatou Ba, Tastes of Senegal began as a humble family-run market stall — a heartfelt way to share her love of cooking and the rich culinary traditions passed down through generations.

Built on the belief that a home filled with the aroma of good food is a place of abundance, warmth, and happiness, we have carried that spirit of Teranga — Senegalese hospitality — forward for nearly two decades.

Our journey gained national recognition in 2018 when Tastes of Senegal was featured on SBS Food's Food Safari, introducing Senegalese cuisine and culture to audiences across Australia.

From the iconic Thieboudienne — Senegal's national dish — to slow-cooked stews, flame-grilled meats, vibrant plantain dishes, and refreshing bissap, every plate we serve tells a story of heritage, family, and passion.

Today, Tastes of Senegal continues to grow across Victoria, including our daily presence near the NGV, bringing the authentic flavours of Senegal to new audiences.

Whether you're discovering Senegalese cuisine for the first time or reconnecting with flavours you've missed for years, we're here to make every bite memorable.
